Shakespeare For Shrews

Conversations about gender equity are continuing to gather strength in our field.  Gender conscious casting is becoming more prevalent, especially in classical plays.  This workshop was developed to prepare performers for the new opportunities arising out of this industry-wide shift. Over the three days, participants will explore the fundamentals of analyzing Shakespeare’s plays and his text, learn (or rediscover) the rules of iambic pentameter and the practice of scansion, consider the male and female archetypes that appear in his plays, and consider the ways in which those archetypes function across his body of work.  Participants will also have time to turn theory into practice by working on a monologue and a scene and receiving coaching on both.

This workshop will be offered in Portland Oregon August 12th, 19th and 20th at Vanport Studios in collaboration with ARTemis.
Hours TBD
Cost $200
If you are interested in participating, please contact Lauren and she will be back in touch with final details and instructions on how to register.
